If you've been waiting for mortgage rates to drift down this fall, this week delivered the opposite. Freddie Mac's weekly survey, released October 1, put the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate at 7.28% — up from 7.03% just one week earlier, and well above the 6.34% average from a year ago.
